Kuang Si Falls Entrance Fee: What a Day Costs in 2026
The Kuang Si Falls entrance fee is 60,000 kip per person, about $2.70, with children under 120 cm free. Last verified at the ticket window in August 2026. Half the guides ranking for this question still print 20,000 kip, which was the fee several increases ago, and one prints 65,000 from a visit in July 2024. Below is every fee at the park, what the ticket does and does not cover, and three worked budgets for the whole day, from a $12 backpacker run to a guided trip.
Quick answer
Entry to Kuang Si Falls costs 60,000 kip per person in 2026, roughly $2.70 at 22,600 kip to the dollar. Children under 120 cm go free. The ticket covers the electric shuttle from the car park and the Tat Kuang Si Bear Rescue Centre. The View cafe, the zipline and the Butterfly Park all charge separately, and getting there costs several times the ticket itself.

The full price list
Prices below are what the park and its concessions charge, checked in August 2026 and quoted in kip because that is what the windows take. Dollar equivalents use the August 2026 rate of about 22,600 kip to the dollar, which has moved a long way in three years and is the reason the kip price has been raised more than once without changing much in dollar terms.

Why the numbers disagree online
Search this question and you get 20,000 kip, 60,000 kip and 65,000 kip from articles that all claim to be current. The 20,000 figure comes from visits several years old that get re-dated rather than re-checked. The 65,000 figure came from July 2024, when the park briefly set that number before the kip moved again.
The park adjusts the kip price to keep the dollar equivalent roughly stable, so expect the number to change again and the value to stay near $2.70. If you see a fee quoted without a month and year attached, treat it as folklore.
What the 60,000 Kip Ticket Covers
More than most people expect
You buy the ticket at the counter beside the lower car park, then join the electric carts that run up the hill to the park gate. Both legs are in the price, as is the walk through the whole park: the lower pools, the tiers, the bridge below the 60 metre main cascade and the trails above it.
The bear sanctuary sits on the path within the first few minutes and is also included. Free the Bears has run it since 2003 and it houses rescued moon bears in forested enclosures. Most visitors give it five minutes on the way past. It deserves fifteen.
- Entry to the waterfall park and every marked trail inside it
- The electric shuttle both ways between car park and gate
- Tat Kuang Si Bear Rescue Centre
- Use of the changing rooms and toilets by the lower pools
- Swimming in the designated lower pools, when they are open
What Costs Extra Inside the Park
The three concessions
The View is the one people resent. A metal staircase of 542 steps climbs from the near side of the bridge to a treehouse cafe, entry 30,000 kip including a soft drink. The panorama over the hills is genuinely good. The waterfall is behind the ridge and not visible from up there, which is what most of the negative reviews at the top are about.
The zipline runs from the same area, five stages back down around the far side to the entrance, at about $25 to $30. Expensive by Lao standards, cheap for a zipline anywhere, and included in none of the guided trips.
The spring cave, a two-mile walk above the falls, charges 10,000 kip and hands you a torch and a banana at the entrance. Nobody on a tour schedule reaches it.
Food, drink and the honest markup
Stalls at the lower car park and around the gate sell grilled meat and fish, stir fries and cold drinks. A larger restaurant near the entrance does Lao and Western dishes. Prices run above town, though not outrageously: bottled water at about 10,000 kip against 5,000 in a shop on Sisavangvong Road.
Bring small notes. Nobody at a food stall wants to break a 500,000 note at nine in the morning, and there is no cash machine at the park.
What It Costs to Get There
The expense that dwarfs the ticket
Entry is trivial. The 29 kilometres between the old town and the gate are not. A shared minivan seat runs $7 to $12 return, a private tuk-tuk or songthaew 300,000 to 600,000 kip for the vehicle with waiting time, a scooter 120,000 to 200,000 kip a day plus the 5,000 kip parking.
Sharing changes the arithmetic completely: the same songthaew that costs $27 for one couple costs $7 each for a group of four. Our transport comparison sets out every option with the waiting-time question that decides how long you actually get at the falls.
Three Worked Day Budgets
What people actually spend
Each budget below is per person for one adult, including the entry fee, transport and a modest lunch. None includes the zipline, which would add about $25 to any of them.
| Budget | Transport | Entry | Food and extras | Total per person | Time at the falls |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Backpacker | Shared van seat $9 | 60,000 kip ($2.70) | Snacks and water, $3 | About $15 | 2 to 2.5 hours |
| Couple with a songthaew | 400,000 kip split two ways ($9 each) | 60,000 kip ($2.70) | Lunch at the stalls plus The View, $7 | About $19 | 3 to 4 hours |
| Guided afternoon | Included | Included | One drink on the boat included, snacks $2 | $37 | 2 hours plus a Mekong cruise |
| Guided full day | Included | Included | Lunch included, tips $3 | $46 to $55 | 2 to 3.5 hours |
Reading the totals
The gap between the cheapest and the most expensive day is under $40, and what it buys is time and logistics rather than a different waterfall. The backpacker run is genuinely fine if you are content with two hours and can live with the midday arrival.
Where the guided options pull ahead is the parts the road cannot supply. The $43 canal hike schedules three and a half hours in the park, and the $35 afternoon trip adds a two-hour Mekong cruise with a drink for less than a private songthaew costs a couple.
Which Budget Fits You
If You are alone and counting every kip
Shared van seat plus the 60,000 kip fee. About $15 for the day, two hours at the park
If There are three or four of you
Hire a songthaew and split it. Cheapest way to buy four hours at the falls
If You want the fee, transfers and a guide handled
A guided trip from $35, which also removes the negotiating
If You want the falls and the Mekong in one afternoon
The half day trip at $35, with a drink on the sunset cruise
If You are travelling with children under 120 cm
They enter free, so the fee side of any budget above drops to one adult ticket
How to Pay, and How to Spend Less
Money practicalities
The ticket window takes cash in kip. No cards, no dollars, no baht at the gate, though dollars and baht circulate freely in town. Change money on the main street rather than at the park, where nobody is competing for your business, and carry your entry fee in small notes.
There is no cash machine at the falls. Draw what you need in Luang Prabang, where the machines charge a fixed fee per withdrawal that makes several small draws expensive.
- Carry 60,000 kip per adult for entry, plus 30,000 if you plan on The View
- Add 5,000 kip if you arrive on a rented scooter
- Keep 50,000 to 100,000 kip loose for drinks and food
- Nothing at the park takes cards
Four honest ways to cut the cost
Share the vehicle. A songthaew split four ways is the cheapest comfortable way to reach the falls and the only cheap way to get four hours there.
Skip The View if the climb is not appealing on its own terms, since it does not show you the waterfall. Eat before you leave town, where the same meal costs half. And if you are choosing between a private songthaew for two and a guided trip, compare them on the tours that include park entry page first, because the delta is smaller than people assume once the fee, the guide and the boat are counted.
Questions About Fees at Kuang Si Falls
How much does it cost to get into Kuang Si Waterfall?
60,000 kip per adult in 2026, about $2.70, paid in cash in kip at the counter beside the lower car park. Children under 120 cm enter free. The price includes the electric shuttle to the park gate and the Tat Kuang Si Bear Rescue Centre. Last verified in August 2026.
Do children pay the Kuang Si Falls entrance fee?
Children under 120 centimetres go free, measured at the window rather than asked by age. Above that height they pay the full 60,000 kip. There is no student, senior or resident discount at the gate.
Is the bear sanctuary included in the ticket?
Yes. The Tat Kuang Si Bear Rescue Centre sits on the path a few minutes inside the gate and costs nothing extra. It is run by Free the Bears, which opened the site in 2003, and holds rescued moon bears in forested enclosures. Donations are welcome and separate.
What does The View cost and is it worth it?
30,000 kip, including one soft drink, at the top of 542 steps. Worth it as a hilltop cafe with a cold drink after a hot climb. Not worth it if you are climbing to look down on the waterfall, because the falls are hidden behind the ridge. Knowing that in advance is what separates the good reviews from the angry ones.
Can you pay the entrance fee by card?
No. The ticket window is cash in kip only, and there is no cash machine at the park. Change money or withdraw in Luang Prabang before you set out, and carry small notes for the food stalls, which have the same problem with large bills that stalls everywhere do.
Do tours include the entrance fee?
All three trips we list include the 60,000 kip entry in their price, along with hotel pickup and the transfers. Shared minivan transfers sold in town almost never do, so budget the fee separately if you buy a seat rather than a tour.
Why do guides give different entrance fees?
Because most of them have not been back. The fee was 20,000 kip several years ago and briefly 65,000 in July 2024, and articles get re-dated without being re-checked. The park adjusts the kip price to hold the dollar value near $2.70 as the currency moves.
For the price of a coffee at home you get a UNESCO-town day trip, a swimmable waterfall and a bear sanctuary. The decision worth thinking about is not the ticket, it is whether you buy the cheap seat that gives you two hours or the arrangement that gives you four.
